To provide the thermal environment representative of an aircraft engine for hot surface ignition tests a combined analytical and computational engine simulator was designed.
Using temperature data supplied by the client that represented the external surface temperatures of the engine of interest a simulated full scale engine core was designed with approximately the same temperature distribution as provided.
Using the supplied temperature data and the engines geometric information a computational heat transfer model was developed and the surface temperature computed.
Once confidence in the model was obtained an arrangement of electric heating elements was configured and modeled and temperature data matched.
