Full Scale Air Duct Design

To provide proper airflow to an aircraft under live fire test air is provided by several stationary jet engines, collected and delivered to the vehicle under test.

 

Full Scale Air Duct Design image1To provide the necessary flow conditions for live fire testing a complex high speed air duct was designed using standard fluid dynamic analysis, than to account for the flow unsteadiness and non-uniform nature of the air supply CFD algorithm’s were applied.

All simulations were performed using the three dimensional unsteady equations of motion found in the OpenFoam® CFD Toolbox.

 

Full Scale Air Duct Design image3The unsteady streamwise velocity distribution was computed and is presented as one looks down on the duct’s horizontal center line.

This complex duct was fabricated and used in a recent aircraft live fire testing program.
