ESI was asked to developed a three-dimensional tracking system capable of tracking multiple fragments from an exploding tire within a confined test cell. Although this was to be used in a test cell lighting was critical which required ESI to design and fabricate a dedicated illumination system consisting of 30,000 LED’s. Using high speed cameras accelerating fragments within a large dynamic range of size, shape and momentum were captured. Using Recon 3D, a priority ESI software the size, speed, momentum, acceleration, and trajectory of tire fragments were determined. The following images provide a brief overview of system and the typical results.
